Risk Godstorm Game

Risk Godstorm Game

Enter a time of myths and legends. Enter a world of Risk Godstorm, where ancient faiths and fears rule. Battle across the Earth and in the dark regions below. Harness primal forces to strike with devastating power. Command five ancient cultures – Greek, Celtic, Babylonian, Norse and Egyptian – in a continent-spanning battle that will determine whose civilization reigns supreme. And rest assured, the gods will not sit idle in this war.

Risk Godstorm is a new, stand-alone Risk extension with a mythology theme. Includes a secondary map of the underworld to extend game play.

More on Risk Godstorm

If you are familiar with Classic RISK, and it would probably be a good thing before attempting to play Risk Godstorm you  will, at first, think that Godstorm is a complete free-for-all, with much less strategy and a total reliance on luck.

This line from the rule book: “Table talk, including alliances, threats, coercion, whining, pleading, backstabbing, invocation of the divine wrath of your ancestors and other verbal tirades, is not only allowed, but also encouraged.” just about sums it up.

Entire armies for the unwary player can be decimated in the play of just one card such as “The Sea is Your Tomb” miracle card that sinks the entire continent of Atlantis along with all armies, temples and gods present in Atlantis. However, when you know the card is there to be played ( and your opponents do as well as) then you might easily take and hold Atlantis with a small number of forces (while your main forces work on another continent).

Game play is more like a Risk 2210, with Risk Godstorm also played for five turns or “epochs” and the player with the most points at game end wins.  Risk Godstorm, is however, much more chaotic and loud, shifting the power among players all the time. You must raise armies, gather faith, summon gods and build temples, perform miracles, suffer plagues, invade territories, fortify, embark from Heaven and invade the Underworld.

Four gods can be summoned (Magic, War, Death and Sky) to perform miracles such as to allow the re-roll all 1s, bring additional armies, sink Atlantis, make armies move faster, summon a plague, vanish all gods from earth, cause the attacking army to win all ties,  turn back time and cause the game to last a sixth turn, destroy relics (relics give you extra miracle cards or faith tokens each turn), etc. The Gods will not directly fight an army but will fight each other in a godswar if encountered.

Despite the challenges, cards, Gods, etc of the Risk Godstorm Board game, this game is NOT a luckfest, it just will initially appear that way to players who are used to playing Classic RISK and haven’t had time to catch onto all the nuances of the new game.  The game is more complex than classic Risk and it will take you a few games and some careful thought before you start to develop your strategy/strategies.

Godstorm is an interesting and definitely stimulating game  and as one Reviewer of the game said:-
“Risk Godstorm is one of the most original games I have ever played. Despite being based on Risk, it takes on a game play of its own where your strategy from Risk will only take you so far. The added elements of actual Gods walking the Earth, miracle cards, and the underworld make for a truly exciting game. Different everytime you play and just as fun. GET IT. GET IT. GET IT.” (More reviews Here)

So if you like a loud, chaotic, in your face kind of game, that has a bit more depth, strategy and luck? than the original risk game then Risk Godstorm is for you.

Risk 2210

Risk 2210Risk 2210

The future of the Risk world is here. All the continents of the original risk are present (with new names), as well as new continents.

Who will be the new world leader? The world is at war in this futuristic Risk Board Game, Risk 2210 AD. As the leader of one of the warring factions, you control the destiny of your people. On and above earth you must marshal your forces, send forth your troops, hire the right commanders and crush your enemies.

Build alliances if you dare, but also be wary of those who you call friend. Spend your energy wisely. Enlist the right commanders with the right commands and you can gain the power you need to conquer your opponents.

Check out the Game Here

Anyone familiar with classic Risk will find this an interesting change. It takes place in the future of the planet with a Lunar map to conquer along with the Earth map. There are even underwater territories that can be conquered, and this means that there are more links to other territories, giving islands like Australia multiple entry points.

As a twist on previous version the Risk 2210 AD game has commanders with different “levels of power” units as well as other specific tactical advantages. Want to storm your opponents naval colonies? You have to have a Naval Commander. Also for each commander type you purchase (using energy chips you get at the start of your turn) you can purchase command cards which allow you to do some radical things in the game.

One of my favoites is the Stealth M.O.D.s card. When an opponent invades your territory, you play the card and place 3 additional armies in your territory.

You can also play classic Risk with it, so in a way it’s two games in one.

Check out the Game Here

One word of Caution though, this can be a very long game by normal rules.  Officially, Risk 2210 AD plays for only 5 turns, and the player with the most points wins, however, it can easily be played in the usual conquer-all mode.

The Risk 2210 board game is recommend for anyone with a sci-fi interest, and anyone familiar with Risk. It can be overwhelming for new players as the complexity makes it harder to learn.

Of course, Risk 2210 AD can easily be played using your own custom rules. Don’t like Commanders? Then play without them. Don’t like the moon concept? Then don’t play it (it is a separate board anyway). Or play without cards, or play without water territories. You can do what you want, you can even play original risk on this board game, since the main territories have the exact layout of the original.

Risk 1998 Board Game With Army shaped Pieces

Posted by admin - February 21st, 2010

Risk 1998 Board Game With Army shaped PiecesThis version of the Risk Board Game, the 1998/1999 edition, is one of the better versions to own because it has the little Napoleonic soldiers, cavalry, and cannons.

More importantly, it has one of the best, if not the best, game boards of the entire Risk Game collection.

The artwork is superb. One look at the compass rose should convince just about anyone. The other reason the board is superior is because it has lat/long grid lines that form squares in the ocean.

If you want to play Risk with Naval variant rules, the grid squares are a great help. As far as I know, this version is unique for having the lat/long squares.

Happy gaming.
