The Risk 1993 edition rules have 5 excellent rule variants, two player rules, rules for Capitols (shortens the game), and Secret Missions (randomly selected from included cards). The hard plastic miniatures are nicely sculpted Napoleonic figures. This 1993 Edition is one of the better versions of classic Risk. The mapĀ artwork is superb, the figures sculptures are excellent, and it has something unique among all the editions of Risk. It has latitude and longitude lines. which make excellent “sea zones” similar to the territories on land allowing for an easy modification for variant play using naval forces. The educational aspects of the game still include: basic geography, rapid basic mathematics, numbers comparisons, odds calculations, change making, hand management, prioritization, and strategic thinking. Hasbro has stopped making Risk with the little soldiers, so these have begun to become collectible. It’s a great game, and this is a great edition of that game. Have a look over at Amazon for more reviews and other information.
This version of the Risk Board Game, the 1998/1999 edition, is one of the better versions to own because it has the little Napoleonic soldiers, cavalry, and cannons.
More importantly, it has one of the best, if not the best, game boards of the entire Risk Game collection.
The artwork is superb. One look at the compass rose should convince just about anyone. The other reason the board is superior is because it has lat/long grid lines that form squares in the ocean.
If you want to play Risk with Naval variant rules, the grid squares are a great help. As far as I know, this version is unique for having the lat/long squares.
Happy gaming.

Giant Risk Game
And for something slightly different but on a similar theme, here’s Pete’s home made approach to the Risk Game, using plastic army pieces and a Giant Risk board.
As he says “Some things just have to be done because they are cool.” This is one of them!!
